Kasane, town of a thousand safaris

Kasane, Chobe is a little town with a lot to give. It has its own airport where the designer backpackers can fly into and it’s about ten kilometers from Kazungula where four countries meet and you can cross over the river to get to Livingstone for the Vic falls. Or go via Zimbabwe for the falls.

It’s best feature is the warthogs that roam willy nilly in the town without a care about maybe being someone’s dinner later! 😳

Tripadvisor and booking.com doesn’t do Kasane any justice with regards to accommodation options, so your best bet is to check out http://www.safarinow.com. I had images of us sleeping on a bench at the bus rank but after a few duds we got a room at Thebe.

Most of the lodges and BnB’s provide safaris and river cruises. Or take a walk into town, where the Spar is (just have to say, stupid Spar on every corner) and find more options.

We took a river cruise down the Chobe river which is also the border between Namibia and it was spectacular; buffalo, elephant, impala, giraffe, hippos, crocs, fish eagle, some other antelope I couldn’t identify. All coming to graze and water. Nature at its best.

Black Dawg saw them all and had a blast. His eyes were like saucers and we shared a beautiful sunset together.
