A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away, the football world cup was born

It was 1930, Uruguay played Argentina in the first ever football world cup final, held at Estadio Centenario, Montevideo. The stadium was built specifically for this world cup, which was mainly with South American countries participating, with only a few countries from Europe prepared to make the long haul journey, strange that if some gold had been on the table, I am sure that some of the colonial countries would have been happy to make the journey, well France came.

Anyhow, for me to visit the stadium was cool, we only arrived there after a fairly long walk from the Tres Cruces bus station, arriving with five minutes left before the museum closed. Opting to save some money and a five-minute tour I skipped on this and walked around the outside to pay a $1 fee to get into the stands.

For thirty minutes I had the total stadium, to myself to wander around and imagine what it must have been like back in 1930 with 100,000 people crammed in watching Uruguay beat their fiercest rival Argentina by 4 – 2 to win the inaugural Football World Cup.
